X-crashes using gtkglext with nvidia

Hi,

I am trying to display an image using gtkglext so I downloaded and installed gtk+-2.2.4 and gtkglext-1.0.4 on my RH9 system. I also installed NVIDIA driver 1.0-4496.

I compiled the examples under gtkglext and most of them work. However, when I try the "pixmap" example (under .libs - is this the usual location?) my X-server crashes and I get a new login screen. Ouch!

I logged the progression of the "pixmap"
program, and this is what I am getting:

OpenGL extension version - 1.3

OpenGL visual configurations :

gdk_gl_config_is_rgba (glconfig) = TRUE
gdk_gl_config_is_double_buffered (glconfig) = FALSE
gdk_gl_config_is_stereo (glconfig) = FALSE
gdk_gl_config_has_alpha (glconfig) = FALSE
gdk_gl_config_has_depth_buffer (glconfig) = TRUE
gdk_gl_config_has_stencil_buffer (glconfig) = TRUE
gdk_gl_config_has_accum_buffer (glconfig) = TRUE

GDK_GL_USE_GL = TRUE
GDK_GL_BUFFER_SIZE = 32
GDK_GL_LEVEL = 0
GDK_GL_RGBA = TRUE
GDK_GL_DOUBLEBUFFER = FALSE
GDK_GL_STEREO = FALSE
GDK_GL_AUX_BUFFERS = 0
GDK_GL_RED_SIZE = 8
GDK_GL_GREEN_SIZE = 8
GDK_GL_BLUE_SIZE = 8
GDK_GL_ALPHA_SIZE = 0
GDK_GL_DEPTH_SIZE = 24
GDK_GL_STENCIL_SIZE = 8
GDK_GL_ACCUM_RED_SIZE = 16
GDK_GL_ACCUM_GREEN_SIZE = 16
GDK_GL_ACCUM_BLUE_SIZE = 16
GDK_GL_ACCUM_ALPHA_SIZE = 16

The OpenGL rendering context is created
The application 'pixmap' lost its connection to the display :0.0;
most likely the X server was shut down or you killed/destroyed
the application.

Of course I didn't kill/destroy the application. It killed X!

Do I need a newer version of OpenGL?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Darrell

Hi,

I think the problem is with the NVIDIA driver. I installed the 4363 driver (one generation earlier) and was able to view the pixmap demo. Unfortunately, when I attempted to use emacs a few minutes later, the 4363 driver also crashed.
