X config on toshiba laptop

I am trying to install Mandrake 8 on a Toshiba Portege 300CT. The installation goes well until I get to "configure X". I am prompted to chose a monitor, which the default goes to a generic monitor. When I choose a monitor I get a message that says "undefined ARRAY reference"
I click OK and then get a message that says "Install is incomplete, do you really want to shutdown?". I click "no" and the Message "undefined ARRAY reference" comes up again. These two prompts go in circles and I can't do anything except shut down. When I start up I logon in Linux and the "startx" command fails.

Does anyone know how to configure X on a Toshiba laptop? The graphics card is Chips and Tech 65554.

my suggestion is to first check out the compatibility lists and what not at , from there you should see if your hardware is supported by xfree86 or not.. might need to update or download a new driver or version of xfree86.
then i would suggest you can check out , they have a huge list of laptops and what people have done to properly install linux on those laptops.
