x config

hi

i installed rh9 with screen res at 1024x768, but when i startx it only shows 640x480. /etc/x11/xf86config says

Modes "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"

removing 640x480 causes x to fail on startup. my monitor is very capable of displaying 1024. anyone help? thanks

Have you tried leaving the 640x480 entry in, but cycling through the resolutions once X has started?

ctrl - alt - + cycles up through resolutions and colour depths, and if you get to a resolution which doesn't work, use ctrl - alt - backspace to cycle backwards through them.

I had similar problems when I first installed X (last week!) and thats how I got past it.

Also make sure that your card is set up correctly when you run xf86config as root.

Sounds like a bad config file...

Search the forum 'cause there are MANY threads like yours.

In a word: reconfigure.
