X-CD-ROAST doesn't work!
When I launch X-CD-ROAST, I get the following:
-"No configuration file found. Please enter setup." -When I get to the Setup window I have two options: Rescan devices / Manually add devices I'm relatively new to Linux and don't know what all of this means. I tried going a little further, but then chickened out. All I want to do is back up my data on CDs and/or DVDs (CDs actually, I don't have a DVD burner, not yet anyway). Does anybody know what needs to be done in order to get my burner working? I wouldn't mind installing any other CD/DVD burning software if necessary. Thanks |
You'll have to try scanning for your burner. You need to tell it what device you wish to burn with, and you can't choose one until it knows what you have...

Also, with xcdroast you probably need to first run it as root. Do a rescan, and there should also be an option to let non-root users run xcdroast. Check that option, that way you can use xcdroast under your normal user account

Don't know how to rescan! Don't even know what 'rescan' means in this context (lol). I'm certainly learning a lot about linux though, and I'm really enjoying it. Could you give me a few command lines?

1. Is your CD burner mounted? Most distributions automount the floppy and CD devices, but check your setting and such to make sure that it is mounted.
2. As was previously noted, log in as root and see if you can start the app, then add users to the app. 3. What is your distro? There should be a hardware browser in there somewhere. |
Moxieman,
I'm using fc6, and I'm new at all this stuff, which means I didn't understand half of what was in your last message (lol). Sorry! Don't know if it is mounted, don't know how to run a scan... Not yet, anyway. |
