Exclamation x and input

I'm hoping somebody can help me with this issue, as it is very frustrating. My mouse and keyboard respond VERY SLOWLY while X is doing anything, like Mozilla loading a web page. It takes about 3 seconds for X to respond to a keypress, and movement of the mouse is erratic at best.

How can I resolve this? I've searched...I seem to be alone with this issue.

Thanks in advance,
JasonD
