WRT54GS + Kismet drone gives lots of errors

Aloha,

This problem is both a bit strange and spans multiple classifications, so I'll just drop it here and hope for the best. Currently I've got the OpenWRT (http://openwrt.org) firmware running on my Linksys WRT54GS. The main point of this setup is to have a Kimst drone running on the WRT to do packet capture and other various amusing things.

I've got the Kismet drone working on the WRT and the Kismet server running on my desktop. However, whenever I start the drone, I get the following error message:

'eth1: Invalid argument'

It repeats about every 5 seconds. But the drone still seems to be working and I can see things on the Kismet server on the other side. An error that repeats like that makes me a little nervous though.

Next, I began using Driftnet on the FIFO dump from Kismet (anyone have any more information about that FIFO pipe BTW? Unrelated, but any links details what kind of headers it has, etc. would be great). It seems that Driftnet is missing the vast majority of the photos I'm browsing. I don't know if this is because Kismet is set to channel hop or what, but when I've got a page full of images (Google Image search results) and I keep refreshing it, Driftnet will catch maybe one picture each 5-10 times I refresh. Perhaps the Kismet drone isn't sending across that many packets and the error messages are a sign of that? I assumed that Driftnet would be able to grab way more photos than that, but maybe it's a Kismet setting instead. Not really sure...

Anyway, lots of weird/tangential things here, but I've seen so really smart people around here, so someone might have some ideas. If this isn't clear (definite possibility) or needs more info, just ask and I'll update. Thanks in advance for any information,

-Feebles

try editing your kismet.conf and change the eth0 (probally found under capture diveces) for the name you have given vlan1 (your wireless interface).
A small question I have though is it posibale to use kismet while using the wireless network to connect to the router, it probally isn't but i wanted to ask.
And one more thing since it is working, try to remove the eth0 reference alltogether it should work and if it dosn't you can always put it back in. And a third thing make sure you edit the channel line so that it scans all channels if you are outside of the us (they only have up to channel 11 europe has up to 12 and japan upto 14)

My wireless interface is eth1 and that's what is in the kismet_drone.conf. Putting in anything else (vlan0, vlan1, etc.) just gets me a crash when the kismet drone tries to start.

I don't think so. Running the kismet drone means the card is going into promiscious mode as opposed to master (access point) mode.

I'm still getting the eth1: Invalid argument messages when running the kismet drone and Driftnet continues to miss the vast majority of images when used wirelessly (catches them all when used on the ethernet). Anyone have any ideas at what else I could look at? Thanks,
