Question Writing CD Writing Software

I was wondering if any one knew how to go about writing CD writing software in C or C++.

It would be great if someone can point me to a resource regarding this. What are the calls in C or C++ to format a blank CD?

Also, which program is the simplest to write CD's in Linux?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks a lot.

get the oldest source for cdrecord and look at that. it should have the
least amount of fixes for weird and problem drives in it, and should be
the least confusing.
