mplayer

And if your getting bad green blocks, could just be bad/crappy formatted videos from your friend..

I got mplayer working..and seems to be good. When im playing a video, how do i

1.) navigate farther into it (so dont have to watch all)
2.)change the video ratio

you can just type mplayer in your shell and it will give you the key bindings for navigating around. I think right arrow is fast forward and up arrow is next on playlist. Unfortunately, I have no clue about hte video ratio, if you find out, I'de love 2 know.

Wink

I rather disagree. MPlayer probably works differently on different systems.
on me for instance it has problem playing lists. Jumping windows between clips.
Totem however with all the extentions is a piece of art

gui with mplayer

I never had playlists working correctly with gmplayer.

I've tried several frontends, and settled for kplayer.
Playlists work fine and it also has no troulbes with alsa. Also some nice controls instead of just clicky menus.

Cheers

Before going to X you are still rooted, right?
At this point type:
#alsamixer

configure settings at your pleasure and then:

#alsactl store
