won't boot from HD, only floppy L 99 99 99 ...

I had to re-install Knoppix 3.3 to the HD of a laptop last night, but when I try to boot the computer I get the "L 99 99 99 ....." error at the beginning of the boot process & LILO never starts. I did make a boot floppy during the install and when I use the floppy to boot the computer, it will read the LILO boot info from the floppy then continue to boot successfully from the HD.
How do I repair/reinstall LILO on the HD so I won't have to use the floppy? Thanks in advance.

Try Ctrl-Alt-Delete-F1, log in as root, type "liloconfig" and go from there. This will set up a text based LILO configuration.

Ctrl-Alt-F1 is the correct keystroke, not as above.

Thanks for the reply.
At what point in the boot process (or somewhere else?) do I press Ctrl-Alt-Delete-F1?

Boot from your floppy. Once you are in X, then press Ctrl-Alt-F1 (typed incorrectly in previous message). This should take you to a text screen. If you do not have a prompt, press Ctrl-Alt-F2. When you are done configuring, remove your floppy and then press Ctrl-Alt-Delete to restart your system and you should have a text based LILO pop up.
