Originally posted by linuxmandrake nope still no luck so annoying. And dont tell me to switch to mplayer I have already heard that many times !!
Does videolan have an option to search for codecs (I know xine and kaffeine do)? As for recommending mplayer, I am not a big fan of it myself so I use xine libs with kaffeine or totem as the frontend.
am experimenting with the settings now let u know how it goes. The adventure begins again. yay not!!
iT's wierd i seem to have the codec cos in the settings there a code called ffmpeg and in brackets it says wmv. So why isn't it playing then. I know it's shudn't be the file cos i tested it on another which plays fine in windows. GRR
can i convert it to ogm cos thats definately works. Ogm is better than wmv anyways isn't it .

I can assure you its not. On my Mandriva system you just have to install the packages 'win32codecs' and 'xine-win32' from PLF and both kaffeine (xine based) and VLC will be able to play these movies just fine (even though mplayer is not installed).
Assuming that your VLC on fedora is configured in a similar way to Mandriva's then hopefully it will just pickup the Win32 codecs once you've installed them.
