ok before you say anything, yes, ive done numerous searches on this topic before posting
i cant play wmv files to save my life. I've tried it on xine and totem player. ive downloaded the codecs from http://www1.mplayerhq.hu/homepage/design7/codecs.html
i've extracted them to /home/me/.gnome/totem-addons/ and /usr/lib/win32 and i still cant play wmv files. all my media players tell me is that theyre missing the codecs/plug-ins.
any ideas?
Try mplayer also I found dumping totem and installing xine-totem works much better. Also need to download the all codec pack and extract to /usr/lib/win32.If you don't have it make it and then you should be set.The all package you want is the 2nd one down when you see all.http://www1.mplayerhq.hu/MPlayer/releases/codecs/
now the problem is i cant get mplayer to install correctly. when i try to install the rpm it comes up with a list of 5 dependencies and prompts me to insert the dvd side A 32bit disk. i do that and it cant find the dependencies. so i force the install with nodeps through the command line and mplayer shows up in my Kmenu but i cant open the program. ugh, im just not meant to have mplayer or view wmv files...
Yeah I had same problems but give up on the rpm and follow the site and download the source code and do what it tells you and it should work fine in the end.Once all done run gmplayer to run it for it may not show in your menu until you log out and back in.

uhhh yeah, i cant find gmplayer =(, my locate isnt working either, were is it?
First time I tried to install mplayer I screwed it up too. Just download the source and go through everything very slowly, double checking all the way. Follow down every dependency. You'll like mplayer alot, trust me. Xine and totem weren't working for me either.
