Wireless network on Ubuntu 6.10

I got Ubuntu 6.10 on my pc, but I have no idea how I should configure my wireless network card. I found some instructions on the web with some ndiswrapper, but it didn't really work out. It messed up my system so I reinstalled ubuntu 6.10 and now I am not connected wireless. Does anybody know how I can fix this?
