WinXP guest on VMWARE

HI, I have just installed windows xp on vmware, and I can't seem to get the network configured. nomatter what settings i use in vmware, nothing seems to work.

I think bridged would be the best setting, but is there something i have to setup on my linux machine to enable this? or my router (which has dhcp enabled)?

the guest os always seems do have no ip (0.0.0.0) or a windows ip either way, i can't even ping anything from my guest let alone get on the internet.

Thanks in advace for any help.

VMware uses it's own DHCP service to assign IPs to the guests on their separate virtual network, so I don't think that the router is the issue. The only thing outside VMware I've had to change is DNS (so that the other machines can resolve the name of the guest to an IP).

Perhaps try manually setting up the guest with what it should be, to check that everything else is working. If it's just the DHCP, take a look in /etc/vmware/vmnet8/dhcpd to see how VMware's DHCP is currently configured.
