winxp can't access my samba share??

Hi,
I've set up a samba share on one of my servers, and linux can access it fine [it's username:password protected]. Windoze 2k can also access it, it pops up with a little dialog box saying:
Connect As:
Password:

However, windows xp for some reason cannot access it. It sees it and all, but then when I try to open it, it pops up a smiilar dialog box, except you can't change the username field. It's stuck as:
ARCHIVES\Guest
[archives is the hostname of my server]. So wtf is going on? This is probably a lame weird thing with windows, has anyone else had problems like this?

I didn't quite understood your problem but I know that WindowsXP wont connect to a Samba Server by default.

You must change a setting in your Windows Registry
run "regedit" and look for the key:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE]->SYSTEM-CurrentControlSet->Services->Netlogon->Parameters->Requiresignorseal

and change the value from "1" to "0".

I think there is also a Reg Patch that does this somewhere around www.samba.org

Hope it helps

I know why this is. You are logging onto XP with a guest account and you are not using a named account (i think that is the case anyway). By the way, what version of XP are you using? Home or Professional?
