Winex does not appear in rpm query

When i install rpm -ivh winex3-3.....rpm everything works
then i type rpm -q wine
says it's not there
rpm -qa
it doesn't show up
only when i do rpm -qa | grep wine
it returns with wine and version number
I can't install second time but i can go to mandrake control and remove it through there and do the who install all over again.

Any ideas?

well when you do a simple rpm -qa or -q wine it returns no results because you don't have "wine" installed per se ... when you issue it using grep, you are finding an occurance of the letters "wine" as is or the name "wine" within a package name ...

so with that said, whats the problem?

well.....I may have a clue..but i'm not totally sure about it...if someone can come up with something better, I'll appreciate it very much....

I guess that whenever a package is installed using rpm, the entries for the package file are made in a rpm database..Using (may be) an at or a cron job, the system synchronizes the rpm database with the 'updatedb' command..

jorisb, try updating your database using the 'updatedb' command and then query the rpm database for wine...lets see what output is produced...
