WineX 3.0 / Everquest
 

ANyone have any experience with Winex? Playing Everquest? Is it worth 5 bucks a month for 3 months to get the program and/or are there better altenatives. I hate windows/microsoft and Sony but would really like to play EQ again.

I found winex3 to be VERY worth it. I only ever tried to get the patcher to work but just cancelled my account online because I had too many patches, I have heard of it working before though. Check the Transgaming site to be sure. I would recommend winex3 though.

you can get winex for free if you dont mind compiling the source code, atleast that's what i read a few months ago. Did something

Winex3 from transgaming works much better than CVS compiled wine. Many more programs work.

I mean, we pay for the program and only can use for 3 months? What happens after that? Expires or what?...
Well, I've seem Counter-Strike, Return to Castle Wofenstein, Jedi Outcast and Unreal Tournamnet running really nice and smooth. Only Unreal T was being rendered in Software mode :S. OpenGL and Direct3D did not work for my friend :(.
But I wanna have Winex3 too :).

To subscribe to the site requires a minimum 3 month subscription at $5 a month. The benefit, I think, to this is that you can then download the compiled source.

What you get for your 3 months subscription is 1) The ability to download winex binary packages (I use RPMS, but I think they also have debs too...not sure, its been a while), 2) the ability to "vote" on which games you want them to focus on...

Note: The binary packages include support for a copyprotection software used in many windows games (I forget the name), the free CVS version does not include such support.

There's no expiry...I paid for a 3month subscription last year and I have the 2.2 rpms...burned them to CD and I've used them in various systems I have.

What I like is that if you have the RPMS, you can then install the regular wine from source and have both...I have some programs that work in Winex and some that work in Wine :D

Then it's a great deal indeed. I've heard some games, as Quake 2, runs even better then Winslow :)

I'm going for it. Besides, Linux needs a little money support. Programmers and developers needs to eat after all :)

UT and RTCW don't need wine to run...so I would just get the installer for UT(not talking 2k3 here, which has one too) and the binaries for rtcw, you have to copy some packs for the RTCW install. For UT, you just need the disc.
