wine troubles (last few versions haven't worked for me)

Hi, I am on mandrake 9.1 and the last, I think three, versions of wine have not worked for me at all. They go straight into an attempt to debug with every program that I try, many of which used to work under previous versions of wine. I have even tried to uninstall wine a bunch of times (by using rpm -e wine and by deleting the .wine folder), and upon reinstalling it, it still doesn't work. Has anyone else had the same problem? Any suggestions on how I can overcome this problem? Thank you for your time.

There is a lot of helpful info here. There are lists of applications that work with WINE and WINEX and even better, information on what you have to change/add to make the games work.

That site looks helpful but the problem is that NO programs are working in wine, even ones that I used to run without a hitch previously. I don't understand why they would all just stop working for me, especially after I've tried to reinstall them a number of times. Not sure what is left to try except maybe tracking down an older version that worked for me.
