Question wine setup.exe

Calling wine experts/enthusiasts!

For the longest of time I've not used wine because of the multiple problems I've had in trying to get my useful windows programs working under Linux. However, now that I'm on SuSE 9.3, I decided to try again and get through this terrible setup process.

When doing this, I run 'sux -' and try running wine setup.exe on the CD. Whenever I run the setup program from a cd, I get the following types of errors:

# wine /media/cdrecorder/Setup.exe
fixmele:RegisterTypeLib Registering non-oleautomation interface!
fixmele:ITypeInfo_fnRelease destroy child objects
fixmele:ITypeInfo_fnRelease destroy child objects
...
fixmele:ITypeInfo_fnRelease destroy child objects

#

This happens with three different windows programs I'm trying to install. I've reviewed the winehq.org site for help, found nothing that provides any useful information other than something about using native windows dlls. How do I get the native windows dlls installed? I've got my WinXP Pro CD, and my WinXP Pro desktop, but am not sure what/how to get wine working.

If someone can please please help, I'll toast a virtual coke to you!

Thanks for any and all help!!!

Does SuSe work with repositories?

I know for me i just install from my terminal and not cd

Maybe the file on cd is somehow corrupted?

try install from terminal

i use
Code:
sudo apt-get install wine
I use ubuntu and had a flawless install
It doesn't always work but that's mainly because of the supported software

suse supports APT.

use the suse 9.3 or 10 cd and install apt. then download apt4suse
http://susewiki.org/index.php?title=Install-apt4suse

that will add the BEST repos to your suse apt and allow better updates then yast could ever get

Dave,

Have you installed DCOM98? Also, what programs are you trying to install? That would help figure out what is going on.

Are your drives configured in wine? wineconfig, and autodetect drives would be a good start.

Also, dl'ing wine would be good too... they are always quite a bit ahead of any distro version.

if wine isnt your thing or isnt working crossover office does allot of autodonwload of needed files when you try to run things......byut you have to pay or trial. wine is jsut a less polished free version (not that it isnt gret ocne your running nicely)

I have just been revisiting this and suggest

Get wine-0.9.6-SuSELinux100.i586.rpm
Get winetools-0.9-3jo.i386.rpm
Open Konqueror, get Konqueror to open YaST and install them for you.
At terminal type in winetools as USER not root or su
Install EVERYTHING in base install.
You should find this very easy. Works well and is good even if you like CLI.
