A lot of wine problems are from wine not being setup correctly.

http://www.winehq.org/fom-meta/cache/371.html

Winecheck will "check" your setup for you.

What are you trying to "wine"? Some programs don't work with straight wine, but will work with wineX.

Cool

neither wine nor winex work.... i have the latest version, and i'm thinking that it has something to do with directdraw drivers, could it be that i need to set those up in the configuration?

Did winecheck say it was "all cool"?

You might be trying to run a program that just doesn't work using a winbloze emulator from codeweavers (maybe vmware).

Have you had success in running other programs, maybe similar programs, created by other vendors? If so, this one might be one of those mentioned in the above paragraph.

Cool

You mean the wine program or winecheck? What I mean is, did you get your problem fixed then? If so...
