wine problem please help, it wont start anything

I'm trying to install some windows executable but I get this at every program I try :
Marius:~/marius# wine ymsgraa.exe
Invoking /usr/bin/wine.bin ymsgraa.exe ...
wine: could not exec /usr/bin/wine.bin-kthread
Wine failed with return code 1

that's not all, I wanted to report the bug at wine site but there is asking for version
information, so I go with wine -v and guess what :
Marius:~/marius# wine -v
Invoking /usr/bin/wine.bin -v ...
wine: could not exec /usr/bin/wine.bin-kthread
Wine failed with return code 1

wine wont start at all
Anybody can please help me to figure out what's wrong ??
Thanks

thats rather odd ...
does wine.bin-kthread exist ?
and if so, does it have executable permissions for your user ?

I looked in usr/bin and wine.bin-kthread does not exist but there are two similar files there :
wine.bin and wine-kthread, so if not exist where I can get this file or what should I do ?
Thank you

well i would most likely say that if you renamed it, it'd probably break wine ...
so to try a safe step, try making a symlink ... so type the following (as root of course)
Code:
ln -s /usr/bin/wine-kthread /usr/bin/wine.bin-kthread
or just copy and past that command ...

well, now get sense, thanks to you wine works, thank you!, but I'm getting in another problem...
I tryied to make wine works in special for running yahoo messenger cuz I have problems with gaim, and I begin installed it,
at 94 % the installer stop (ymsgraa.exe wich is the complete messenger kit) and show up with this error :
could not execute the external program c:\windows\regedit I press ok and installer stop, in fakewindows directory
the messenger is installed but i don't know how to start it or if the installation was complete.....?

well you would have to find it in the fake windows directory to see if it is installed or not .. and if it was then
the command is "wine <program.exe>" without the quotes or the <>

and yahoo messenger is available in linux is it not ?
also if you didn't want to use that, there is also trillian and kopete that have support for yahoo. ....

long story, the yahoo is installed there, and when I wine ypager.exe I get this :
cocreateinstance for the myyahoo dll failed! and when I press ok its over
I think I have to populate the windows dirs with some dlls, but I don't know how or what to do
I'll try to install the other software that support yahoo,
Thank you very much

OK, the problem is that you have a broken package. This happens a *lot* - people change wine when they build binary packages and break it.

The best way to install Wine is from the source, unless you are using Fedora or SuSE and the official Fedora/SuSE packages from winehq.com - these are the only packages that are consistently OK because they are built by Wine developers and actually ... you know .... tested.

I'm afraid all the problems you have encountered are because whoever built the package you used, screwed it up big time.
