Question Wine - Need help installing a dll

I have been working on this for a few days. I am using winetools9 to complete the setup of my wine. I am doing the install of IE6 and it says I don't have mfc40.dll. The problem is I do. I have tried copies from online. I have copied them from my Win98 and WinXP versions. I still can not get the thing to run. Any help would be very much appreciated.

Have you tried running winecfg and specifying it as either 'built-in' or 'native'?

That would not be a problem if it showed up on the dll list. It doesn't even show. It is like it doesn't exist in the eyes of wine.

Where did you put the DLL file?

I'm pretty sure you need to put it into your /home/username/.wine/drive_c/Windows/System or System32 directory for them to show up correctly.

The file is there. That is why I am having the problem. The file is in the folder, but it says it does not exist. What do I do?

Why oh why would you want to install Internet Explorer on Linux anyway? IE is very heavily hooked into Windows so you'll have a great deal of trouble installing it (if it ever works)

I am not instaling it to use. Trust me, I know there are much better browsers. I am a Firefox fan. I am using it because some of the programs I am adding to wine require IE to be on the computer. If it was not for that, I would not be posting this. That's what makes this even more frustrating. I know I am never going to use the thing.

dlls dont usually show up in winecfg until you add them. What you do is add your app in applications tab, then highlight it and switch to dll tab. Next put the dll name in the top box, click add, and use edit to change built-in/native

As a side note I only had to make shdocw.dll as built-in for IE to work. I also had windows version for IE as win 98 if it helps.

And you have tried installing from within winetools? What happens? Same errors?
