I know this question is best asked on the WINEHQ site, but I'm not getting much response there.
I'm running Slackware64 on an HP dv2500 laptop. I'm using WINE 1.2rc, though've I've gotten the same issue on multiple WINE rev attemps. I'm using IE7 as installed by winetricks though I also have the same results with Firefox through winetricks.
I'm having trouble accessing some websites. IE7 acts like it's connecting but never does. I don't use IE7 to browse but I'm running an online game through WINE that is also having the issue of not being able to connect to the same website. It's like it's being blocked some how. Using firefox under Linux (without WINE)doesn't seem to have the issue. As a matter of fact, I used to run the game on WINE up until the last few weeks. I was having trouble with other WINE supported programs so I opted to update. Now, even putting things back like they were before the update will not allow me to access the website needed for the game.
I've tried to find a frontend for IPTables in hopes that it would work like a router page and I could verify the site wasn't blocked. (again though it isn't without wine)However I can't find any that will work with both KDE4 and Slackware. Except slackfire but it's not really a frontend GUI and is difficult to understand without REALLY understading IPTables.
In short, any suggestions on where to look to see if sites/ports are being block due to being access through WINE? Does WINE use a different port to access sites/internet, than regular linux/firefox access?
Sorry for the long note but wanted to be thorough.
Thanks in advance
Ace

Reason: Typo
I just noticed the identical problem with IE running on CrossOver (WINE with a friendly GUI front-end). I pay for support with CrossOver so I can eventually ask them. ----might take a few days.
Thanks, I have a feeling I'll still have the same issue in a few days LOL.
I also noticed a posting on WINEHQ about Binding of some sort. To bind Win programs to the counter part in linux.( ports, etc) They talk like it's risky but possible.
I'll look in to it more when I'm at home tonight. If there is any thing to it, I'll forward it on.
I've downgraded to 1.1.24 rev level. It's an AlienBob Slackware package. I also installed IE6 instead of IE7. I'm still having no luck accessing Wizard101 website or game. I still can't access it using Firefox (through wine). I did find something out however.
When I tried to access W101 in IE6, I received a File Down load popup. It allows me to choose between Open, Run, or Cancel. Regardless of my choice get an IE error about not being able to download the file. I would assume this was IE related accept It happens in Firefox as well. Also I remembered when I used to run login the game a popup would come up and ask about saving a "paid" file. I guess it was a way to determining subscription status.
So my conclusion is that with the new WINE and IE7, this files are trying to download but are being blocked. My problem becomes how to get Linux to allow WINE to accept these downloads. Any suggestions?
That may be possible. However I was running it when I first installed Slackware 64. It took a long time to get it to run but I did. However Internet access never was an issue.
Also I ran it easily with SlamD64 but I was using KDE3.X So there could be a KDE4 issue as well
