I've installed Wine on my Ubuntu 64-bit install to play around with looking into getting windows games to run on Linux (just an experiment) but I've got a problem which I believe may not be uncommon.
Basically, when I go into the Wine config, and go to the drives tab, I just get a message saying,
"Failed to connect to the mount manager, the drive configuration cannot be edited"
Now I was able to install Freelancer by opening the the setup.exe using the "Open with Wine" option and it installed absolutely fine, but when I run it I get an error telling me to insert the CD-ROM. I'm guessing I need to tell Wine where the CD drive is, but I can't set that if it can't connect to the mount manager.
I did find this,
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=17662 but it seems the only way to get it working is to move files from a 32-bit installation into the folder of a 64-bit installation, but I don't have access to a 32-bit installation to get those files.
One other question, is that whenever I'm trying to run anything, it usually pops up a message saying that my CPU speed is insufficient (Freelancer reported that it was under 600MHz). Does Wine not detect my actual CPU speed? Can I increase it somehow? I didn't see a way in the usual config.
Code:
'rm -rf ~/.wine', run 'wine notepad' and check the regsitry again.
That seems to be a possible fix, but I don't actually understand what it's saying to do, or where to do it.
I've also read that installing 1.1.14 and then just updating also seems to work, but I dunno where to download 1.1.14, I just followed the instructions on the Wine website to get the latest version right off.
If anyone can help (or give me a link to the 1.1.14 version), I'd very much appreciate it.
One other thing I've noticed is that installers tend to report my CPU speed is insufficient (Freelancer reported it to be under 600MHz) however I can't see anything about altering it in the config. Does Wine not see my actual CPU speed? It's an Intel Centrino Duo, T7800 processor. Or is that processor just not supported by Wine?
