Wine: Exiting because of "Error 1"

Whenever I try to run Wine, no matter what application(I've tried several different ones), it exits, because of "Error 1". I've tried configuring wine to emulate different versions of windows and such, but still, error 1. I'm using the latest version of wine(just updated from the apt-get repository). I also tried uninstalling and reinstalling. Any thoughts? What does error 1 mean?

Edit:
X Error of failed request: BadValue (integer parameter out of range for operation)
Major opcode of failed request: 45 (X_OpenFont)
Value in failed request: 0x1c00ea0
Serial number of failed request: 11392
Current serial number in output stream: 11393

That's the error wine gives, after building font metrics.

The only reference I can find to this is:

This is usually due to an error in either fonts.dir or fonts.alias. This usually indicates that the client requested a font which could not be supplied. Sometimes it indicates that an entry exists in fonts.dir or fonts.alias which makes it think the font is available, but the file the entry refers to is missing.

I believe that error 1 in this case indicates the program exited unsuccessfully.
