wine driver problem


I have wine 0.9.35, I use only one other windows app (Tasking 8051 toolchain) and it seems to be working ok enough (not the EDE but the compiler/assembler/linker/hex-conv from CLI).

I can not get my econorom3 (its an eeprom emulator) software to work.

It requires a windows driver called Driverx.sys that supposedly allows software-hardware direct interfacing in windows.

the software in question is called quickloader.exe, and it won't run without detecting the 'driverx' running.

in windows to start it I have to:

I have tried this in wine, but I get errors:

wine: could not load L"c:\\windows\\system32\\net.exe": Module not found
but net.exe _is_ in my /windows/system32 directory. (yes I've tried the full path)

ERROR: Problem with Device Driver Installation
       Verify Driverx.vxd or Driverx.sys is properly located
       and that the Registry entries are present.

Type  "RTLoad32 ?" to see command line options.
I _do_ have both the driverx.sys files, but where to put them and what to tell wine to do?

any pointers on how/where to put device drivers in wine? Is there a way to 'trick' this program via wine into thinking it is running?

i found this very old message that makes life seem pretty bleak (heading back to windoze)

<edit> more information of ?? utility, I ran strace on the wine execution, it seems the program is looking for 'techbus' ? so I added a file called dosdevices/techbus (jsut an empty text file) and strace doesnt report file not found anymore, but I still can't convince it the service is available.

It might be the direct access to hardware thing. I would go to wineHQ with this one.

what do you mean by go to the wineHQ? sorry I'm n00b to reporting these things to people...

thanks for the response, I actually solved this problem by using dosemu (and an older 16bit version of the software) instead.
