Wine assistance?

Whenever I try installing Rainbow Six with Wine, I get these errors:
when executing the RainbowSix.exe file from the CD(The default splash where you can choose to install, browse disk, etc)
Xlib: extension "XFree86-DRI" missing on display ":0.0"

and this occurs whenever I run the SETUP.EXE or _SETUP.DLL:
Setup is unable to find a hard disk location to store temporary files.
Make at least 9265KB free disk space available and then try running Setup again.
Error 101.

Here's what comes up in the console:

Do you have wine or winex?
Winex need to be started with winex3 (something that's not that well documented)

And just for the record, wine is more for appz than games. y advice is to sign up at Transgaming for winex3,2 and get the program from them.

Wine is complaining that the DRI extension for your display is missing. You can solve that problem simply by editing your XF86Config to add that extension. You might have to set the permissions for it too.

Go to the DRI Wiki, start reading through the documentation, and you'll know what to do.

EDIT: My apologies. The DRI Wiki is here:
http://dri.sourceforge.net/

I'd go wineX, but here's my reasons why not:
A: I'm a student, which means $$ is a high commodity for school and such
B: It's on a 200mhz POS computer, so I'd rather not have to get sucked into it now instead of later(Once again, relating to the $$ factor)

Error 101.

I am having the same problem on several applications and games that i am trying to install. Wine version 20031118. Even some installations that would finish successfully with older version, they will now stop too early with this message. This makes me think that it cannot be a serious fault! I tried to install from hard disk but the same error appears.

Anyone knows how to cope with that?

thanks!

try this

here is an info page

http://www.transgaming.com/showthread.php?news=94

look under the steam section

steps 1 and 2 were all I did
of course I also edited the ~/.wine/config file with minor chnages for missing fonts

installing the vbrun code he listed killed the wine setup by the way

Hmm, maybe I'll try HL on my computer, if I put Wine back on it. I recently just threw Windows back on it, just to see if I could play some of the games like Rainbow Six on my TV, after realizing that I have a composite video output, but I can't get my computer to sync with my TV. I'm guessing it's the refresh rate, but it could also be a combo of the resolution as well(I tried multiple resolutions, but none worked, and I set my refresh rate to 60hz). Anyway, after it failed to work properly, I put Linux back on it (Slack9.1), put on the 2.6.0 kernel, and I think it runs more slowly than it did when I had the 2.4 kernel on it. It could be my partition setup, now that I have /usr and /home on the same HDD instead of on different ones(/boot, /usr/, and /home are on one, everything else is on another, smaller one). Well, that's another issue, so I suppose it's best to tackle things one at a time. Thanks bobojo
