WinE and IE6SP1
 

Ok, so I know it sounds stupid to try and get winE to run with IE6, but i'd like to make linux my primary desktop and for school my homework is assigned through a website that only makes a plugin for IE6, after repeated complaints with no response, I decided to take matters into my own hands....googling turned up a result for how to get IE6SP1 to work with WinE but it was a rather old version 20031212 i believe. I'm running Debian Sid and for some reason I just can't get Crossover Office to run either. Any suggestions/nudges/tips would be helpful regarding:

A) trying to get IE6 to run under winE

or

B) trying to get this plugin (mathlab XL) to run in mozilla/konqueror/any linux based browser.

There was a bad Wine release not long ago that IE6 wouldn't install under. Should be fixed by now if they've released another one but if not, just grab a version from a month or so ago and it should be fine :)

Yeah, I tried that tutorial on frankscorner.org and IE6 wouldn't install using all three methods, I guess the version in the unstable apt-repository is that particular version, or it might just be me, but i've been reading somemore on wine and they strongly disapprove of using packaged versions for some reason.

I'm using the Wine that shipped with the iTunes Crossover Office preview and it worked great for lots of stuff, was even using the new MSN Messenger 7 beta on it for a while :rolleyes: I've been slowly weaning myself off it and now I don't think I even need it installed anymore, can't remember that last time I used it :D

CrossOver is definitely the easiest way to install IE. Alternatively use the IE script in the latest Wine Weekly News.

Make sure you're using the latest version, built from the source (eg not debian packages), and it may work. good luck!
