With numerous versions of wine (currently 20050310 on Mandrake 10.1) I've been unable to install Hitman or Hitman 2. The error is (fairly) consistent:
"wine /mnt/cdrom/setup.exe" returns "Could not initialize installation. E:\GLCb4.tmp File not found." The only variation is in the missing filename ... I've seen E:\GLCa9.tmp, E:\GLCc6.tmp, etc.
Has anyone come across this? Better yet, has anyone found a solution? Thanks.
I just tried installing Master of Orion 3. Virtually the same message, so I think it must be a problem with my wine setup, and not with my games. I've installed several versions from RPM, using a config file I found on the net (Frank's Corner) as a starting point. I think I'll try installing from source. Any thoughts?
Actually, I've now (almost) got everything working under Wine, having reinstalled from source. One last problem: I use ALSA for sound, but the in-game sound is very staticy. I see this error message a lot in the terminal from which I launched the game:
err:dsoundSOUND_PhaseCancel length not a multiple of block size, len = 52, block size = 4
How do I change block size, or alternatively length?
