Wine????

Ok
I installed wine
tis good
did the
$ wine notepad.exe
thing
it worked

then tried to install a disk

$ wine /mnt/cdrom/SETUP.EXE

install looked good but it said after install, "can't open Windows Explorer"
wouldn't open the disk

said it was putting every thing in a
C:\Program files\<programname>

how do I open that

do I need Explorer?

Cd to what ever you created as your "c " drive then cd to the program files\progname directory and run:
wine progname.exe

trying to install
CCNA Complete
a CBT i got some years ago
( just a test )

$ wine C:\Program files\CCNA complete
wine: cannot find 'C:Program'
$ wine CCNA.exe
wine: cannot find 'CCNA.exe'

ran the .rpm in my home directory
not sure where the "fake C: drive" is

I didnt make one

Rpm created these files

/usr/lib/wine
/usr/lib/wine/wine

with a bunch of ".dll.so" 's and such

Notepad probably worked because it's part of Wine.
Look in the ~/.wine/config file. This is where things such as your fake "c" are specified. The wine.conf manual page may help. If you don't have one, copy the sample config file from the /usr/docs/wine-<somenumber>/samples directory, and adjust it to your liking.

I said cd in the first place:
cd "C:\Program files\CCNA complete"
Then
wine CCNA.exe

If you have spaces then you need quotes so that he argument doesn;t look like multiple arguments:
wine "C:\Program files\CCNA complete\CCNA.exe"

Thank you Mr Ross
$ cd "C:\Program files\CCNA complete"
bash: cd: C:\Program files\CCNA complete: No such file or directory

I'm lookin at the man pages and conf files now to see, as "aaa" said
"...where things such as your fake "c" are specified."

thank you

my config file says;

[Drive C]
"Path" = "${HOME}/.wine/c"
"Type" = "hd"
"Label" = "MS-DOS"
"Filesystem" = "win95"

the sample file says;

[Drive C]
"Path" = "/c"
"Type" = "hd"
"Label" = "MS-DOS"
"Filesystem" = "win95"

the Wine HQ page sys it should look;

[Drive C]
"Path" = "%HOME%/wine"
"Type" = "hd"
"Label" = "MS-DOS"
"Filesystem" = "win95"

[ " With this configuration, what windows apps think of as "c:\windows\system" would map to /home/user/wine/windows/system in the UNIX filesystem. " ]

so if I changed the config file to
"Path" = "%HOME%/wine"
then I'd only have to set up these files in my home directory
/home/user/wine/windows/system

Ive Downloaded the winesetuptk-0.6.1-b.i586.rpm

but the documentation doesn't tell this Newbie how to run it

ok chaged it to ;

"Path" = "%HOME%/wine"
this error

/.wine/%HOME%/wine (No such file or directory), ignoring drive C:
Invalid path L"c:\\windows" for L"windows" directory: does not exist.
Perhaps you have not properly edited or created your Wine configuration file,
which is (supposed to be) '/home/warren/.wine/config'.

changed it back to default
and got this error

fixme:shell:Stream_WriteLocationInfo writing empty location info
err:menubuilder:InvokeShellLinker failed to extract icon.
