Ok thanks

I got wine running ok, only way I know to open a windows program is to mount the windows directory search for what program you wnt to run and right click open with "Wine Windows Emulater " is this correct  , I do get error's when opening Adobe software or Macromedia software, do they need to be installed on the Linux box it self

IE browser opened but ask to download Wine Geko installer, which it did but came up with a blank window

I'm looking at the Wine Application Database now to see if there are any how too's for programs I wish to run, I realy only need two ( above appz )

Yes, you have to install it in wine. Wine has its own version of the registry. It does not know about a program until it has been installed.

If you want to run ie(generally a bad idea) you would be better off looking at IES4linux.

cheers for that,

when installing win programs, do you have to be a normal user or admin to get them running, I'm about to try now

Wine is a package that will run certain windows programs, there is a list at Wine HQ website

Ok I found the Wine File Structure, how do i create a short cut for a program i installed, it didn't install the menu shortcut or I forgot to tick the right box.

I was able to install Adobe photoshop and Image ready along with Dream Weaver, Win rar, ImTOO, Winzip, haven't tried any more yet.

Tommy

Why are you installing apps that are available as linux native? Rar, zip I know are available and maybe some of the others.

lazlow 05-02-2007 07:55 AM

Steele

Wine allows you to run a lot of windows programs within linux.

I'm only installing as a test to see what works and what doesn't

winzip and rar were a test to see if it could work.

Try http://www.winehq.org. Or www.codeweavers.com.
I use CodeWeavers version of Wine on FC5 to run MSWord and Excel.

Not bad only one problem with code weavers, is that you have to buy the product.

Yes, but the price is moderate, it supports further development of Wine, and the product is robust and reasonably stable. I had problems when I tried to install Wine some time ago, before I installed CodeWeavers.
