Introduction to Linux - A Hands on Guide
This guide was created as an overview of the Linux Operating System, geared toward new users as an exploration tour and getting started guide, with exercises at the end of each chapter.
For more advanced trainees it can be a desktop reference, and a collection of the base knowledge needed to proceed with system and network administration. This book contains many real life examples derived from the author's experience as a Linux system and network administrator, trainer and consultant. They hope these examples will help you to get a better understanding of the Linux system and that you feel encouraged to try out things on your own.

i'm trying to run wcIII and age of mythology, both games. age of mythology seemed to have loaded fine with winex, except that the graphics where horrible. i could hardly tell what the main menu was saying, so i decided not to install. then i tried warcraftIII, and it wouldn't even show the main screen, it just shot a bunch of bs stuff that i didn't understand in the terminal, and then just stopped with a segmentation fault. i just now reinstalled wine, so i'll try it with that. but i'm glad we finaly found that stupid stupid ;. i mean, i knew it was something like that. i just wish someone would have told us much sooner. basicly, i found out by emailing frank from that frankscorner website, and he replied with exactly what i needed.
And as I found out in some FAQs some time ago, there should be Warcraft 3 parameters to run in OpenGL, where it is fully playable.
Just google around a bit, I'll do what I'm able to.
Age of mythology isn't playable both by wine and winex.
ok, so i'm back. i tried earlier this morning, and they both started up perfectly without any problems, well, nothing too major atleast. I just need the guy that i borrowed wcIII from to send me the key :-D and i think that all i need for age of myth. is the file pidgen.dll. now, i don't know if i'm able to find it, and if i do find it, what to do with it, but we'll see. mabe it does work fine with winex, but it just seems to me that i needed to do more configuring, and that's more than what i wanted to do. if i run into more trouble and can't manage to play it with wine, then i'll see what i can do with x. thnx
OK, FINE!!! SO I SPOKE TOO SOON!!! WHO CARES!!! NOW HOW DO I FIX THIS!?
[politisj@localhost /]$ wine /home/politisj/.wine/c/Program\ Files/Warcraft\ III/Warcraft\ III.exe
err:aspi:SCSI_GetProcinfo Could not open /proc/scsi/scsi
this happens, and wc has a popup that says that it can't find the cd, to please insert the cd and click retry. i noticed when i first was trying to run this that, it couldn't find any of my .wine directories cause it was searching for this:
/home/politisj/.wine/$HOME/.wine/c : when my config file said $HOME/.wine
so, i had to change this for both my .wine c drive and my cdrom drive. i suppose that i didn't configure the cdrom drive properly in my config file? how do i fix this? thnx
cvs version of what? i'm using wine that i dl from, i think, wine.sf.net. there's got to be something going on with my config file that is not letting it read the cdrom. i copied the cd and stored it in a folder in .wine and changed my config file to look for the cdrom in cdrom/. It stopped giving me that stat error, but it still can't find the cdrom. why can't wine find my cdrom?
Of course, to use such games like wc3 and others, you need the extended winex3- the actual version is v3.3. It's programmed by transgaming -www.transgaming.com- and you can get a free version per cvs or buy a version for 5$ I think. The one you have to buy has the advantage that it can handle with copy protections (winex cvs and the normal wine can't!!)
