The matter is off topic here, but...

VMWare: Software that permits you emulate an environment to run another operating system or application of another operating system. VMWare has version for Windows and Unix/Linux.
For example: There is appliances that run under VMWare in windows that run Fedora 4 core minimal installation, Fedora 5, Debian with KDE, puppy linux, etc. You start an instance of VMWare and "boot" your appliance inside of the VM created by this instance.
My question is about the opposite, e.g., start an instance of VMWare in linux and boot windows XP inside this instance.
If you sear for VMWare in Google you'll find lots of pages. In popular P2P there are lots of programs and appliances related.
You can begin with: http://www.vmware.com/

Same thing but only in reverse.

Install the Linux version use qemu to create a vmx file or on of the online vmx creators. Start Vmplayer and install XP. It is pretty simple, as a matte of fact I am install XP in vmplayer on my Debian system right now. Takes fraking forever.

I reasonable knowledge of windows and I'm studyinng linux since 2 or 3 months. If I can run windows under linux I can banish windows from my home. My wife is a travel agent and has an application that must run in windows(ActiveX, blargh!)

Best regards

Okay, I think I'm having the same issue as Nightrider. I am looking for a download source location (KTorrent, P2P, http or ftp site) that offers the Windows XP virtual appliance. Does anyone know where I can download it from?

You won't find a "legal" download for windows XP (or any windows) because you need to purchase a license for windows. So it's not a good idea to ask for one here as linuxquestions.org could be held responsible for pointing users to an illegal download site.

Hello I have win 98 running in vmplayer on my machine. Take a look at these links for how to set it up. You may need to play around with your .vmx like change the path of where your cdrom is located (e.g. /dev/cdrom) but I got things up and running from these sites.

For help in installing quemu I followed this guide

http://en.opensuse.org/Qemu_with_kqe...module_support

as I had gcc 4.1. I did not get kquemu acceleration working but I only needed qemu to create the .vmdk file. Good luck!

Okay, I found my copy of Windows XP. *sigh* All I need it for is to run programs that won't emulate on WINE or Cedega. *frustration!*
