Guys, just a quick one, is there a good product I can use under Fedora to emulate Windows. Unfortunately I still require it for work. Tried vmware but had trouble getting it installed :/
vmware is not a windows emulator, it's a virtual machine, which is a very different thing. wine is also not an aumlator but often mistaken to be one, and that may well be more like what you're after. if you do want a virtual mahine then vmware is very good, i'd suggest you read the installation instructions correectly and ask if you need furhter assistance. also if you are on fecord core 6 you can install xen natively instead of vmware for an alternative virtual machine solution.
Hi, thanks for the response, yes I am after a virtual machine, a full OS I can run within Linux. Will Xen serve this purpose? Is it any good? Thankyou.

No, Xen requires a modified version of the OS which "knows" about Xen. Last I heard (although this was ages ago) MS don't release a Xen-enabled Windows kernel.
There are a few different VM techs out there for Linux. Ones that spring to mind are:
vmware
parallels
qemu
bochs
plex86
There's a comparison of different vm solutions on wikipedia.
I'm sorry you had trouble with VMware. I've run it extensively for quite awhile. I've installed Windows XP and Windows 2000 under it in addition to Freebsd 6.1. I have to admit, I see very little difference between software running under it and the natively installed software. If you have specific problems with the installation, either people here, or at the VMware specific forums should be able to help.
Erk - I posted this to totally the wrong thread! *gleep*. MODS: Please remove.

Try turning AIGLX off and try to use blender again.
You might not get so many fancy eye-candy effects with AIGLX off, but that's a small price to pay to use a critical app. Further up the page in that link there is a mention that running "other GL applications" may suffer "weird effects". Seems like instant death to X is a pretty weird effect! I guess they still have some bugs to iron out. If turning AIGLX off solves the problem, it's probably worth making a bug report against AIGLX.

You have to pay for vmware as well as for windows. Then you have to go through the task of getting it to work. All this so you can run office and itunes. Just run windows and move on. And I still say don't take work home. You take women of questionable reputation home. Here in the USA we have separation of work and play.

erm.. no totally wrong. vmware player and vmware server are 100% free to use now. and it's none of your business if people work at home or not. personally i much prefer working from home instead of driving into the office and sitting in traffic for an hour each way.
