Windows Media Player plug-in?

Is there a browser plug-in for Windows Media files? I'm getting sound but a blank screen with white text that says "no picture."

Example: videos at http://www.wwe.com (Try the Brett Hart one)

Which browser are you using? You can get the Media Player Connectivity extension for Firefox at https://addons.mozilla.org/extension...nfo.php?id=446 , just be careful which one you install; my version of Firefox on XandrOS 3.02 OCE needed an old version or it breaks the browser. I used 4.6.1 ...

Then: Since you're running a Debian distro, add

deb ftp://ftp.nerim.net/debian-marillat unstable main

to your /etc/apt/sources.list file, and run

apt-get install w32codecs

as root. It will create a /win32 directory in /usr/libs, which should contain all the codecs you need to play these files, as well as QuickTime.

Hope this helps ... this worked in XandrOS 3.02 OCE.

And darn. After I posted all that I found I couldn't watch this video either! Not that I'm a wrestling fan, but next year I'll want to watch streaming vids of bicycle races ... I just hope the Italian channels use realPlayer instead of the Microstuff.

I would suggest using mplayerplug-in, which you can find as an rpm at places like http://rpm.pbone.net/

I am using firefox and still have not resolved the many difficulties in viewing content designed for windows media. I visited the site and didn't have much luck: the mplayer showed the advertisement clip but failed to show the rest of the video. I've seen this before. Good luck.

I've got win32codecs installed, and the mplayer plug-in installed. Before I updated KDE and played with some other things, the mplayer plug-in used to handle most video files within the browser—QuickTime for sure, and maybe .wmv but I don't remember. Can anyone successfully play this video? Maybe there are some things you can't do in Linux that you can with XP....

It seems where there is a will there is a way. But I'd agree some things are very difficult and perhaps not worth it. I'd like to be able to play radio station formats like
http://launch.yahoo.com/launchcast/stations/default.asp
where I get an error:
Error
Sorry, we are unable to support Netscape 6.0+ at this time.
Error Code: 7 - 0
