windows apps on linux terminal server

Question: Does anyone have experience with windows applications running on a linux/windows terminal server and linux (thin) clients?
Background: A guy who runs a company that sells support on exactly this is going to present his solutions in my office next week and I really really need some background information b4 tuesday... To be honest, I don't know from scratch.
But it could be interesting for us; Vista is coming on and I'm tired of upgrading tons of hardware just to be able to run something just to be able to run something else.
Can anyone point me to something I should read?
Thanks in advance!

Thin Clients

I am not sure what you are asking.

I run windows apps on my SUSE 10.1 machines using WINE with varying results.

I run Linux apps on my Windows XP PRO machine using cygwin.

I am in the planning stages of converting my local public library over to thin client - One Linux file/X server. The PC's will not have a hard drive, but will boot from either a floppy or CD (I don't have bootable NIC cards).

Which setup are you looking at?

Hi,

well, this is what I have right now:
(in different locations) 3 Samba domain servers, primarily for saving user data, and
2 windows 2003 servers, where we run the database backends for special software (bookkeeping;
Cache, MSSQL). About 100 machines are connected to these systems, all running winXP.
I don't know what it's going to be yet. I'm beginning my research right now.
My dream would be: All them users boot their PCs in the morning, think it's windows but in fact open linux on terminal servers. They would only have thin clients, everything they're running is really running on those terminal servers. Their excel sheets, their everything. And also their database clients. Microsoftware, if necessary (and if even possible without hassle) emulated.
How close could I probably get to this dream?
Is this even a good idea?
