This is a really stupid little thing... and I'm sorry if I posted it in the wrong forum... but...

I've been using Windowmaker and I love it. The one thing that's bothering me, is I can't get the little dockapp "wmtime" to open automatically when I log in in the morning. I click settings, and then both lock and click "launch on start up", and when I log off, I save the current session. But alas, my silly little clock always goes away and I have to manually restart it. All the other applications (jpilot, Ximian, xterm, xmms) behave as they should when I log in/out. Any ideas how I can get my clock to stick too?

Don't know anything about SuSE, windowmaker, or the dockapp. But, lacking any other posts, what the heck... - there does seem to be something wrong which I don't know how to fix - try reading all the man pages and documentation on the dockapp and the window manager. However, as a workaround, if you're starting in text mode and start X with 'startx' you can add a line executing that dockapp to ~/.xinitrc which will start it. If you use a graphical login there's probably a similar file, such as ~/.Xsession but SuSE may well have the X initialization rigged to ignore the usual suspects, so that wouldn't work. Also, I've occasionally come across busted GUIs - click on the button and nothing happens. Yet if you edit the text config file directly (wherever windowmaker keeps those settings) that will make it take effect. In other words, try to do with a text editor whatever the GUI is *supposed* to be doing.

This is not the answer you seek, but might be an alternative. I also use WindowMaker sometimes (and Blackbox too) and a great clock alternative is gkrellm:

It's more like a system monitor, displaying your fan process, swap, disk access and clock among many other informations. I don't know a single person who have tried it and did not like it. Plus there're plenty of plugins and skins for it .

I'll try thosse suggestions when I'm off my husband's stupid compaq and we've got the new heatsink and fan on the REAL computer.

I do have gkrellm installed (I was playing with it earlier this year) and you know, it didn't dawn on me it had a clock on it and I could use that. Failing getting the dockapp to work, I'll try it with gkrellm. It's a nifty little application.

wmaker is wierd when it boots up. my version doesn't even look at ~/.xinitrc or ~/.Xresources...

you can add programs to startup in ~/GNUstep/Library/WindowMaker/autostart
