win4lin, 256 color mode possible?

Hi, I'm using win4lin and I am having trouble setting it to 256 colors. I want to be able to play starcraft but since I can't switch the color mode, it won't work. I tried to use the compaq driver that I would normally use on windows for my video driver but it wouldn't work. I only get the option of VGA and x/win98 merge driver as video card options, and they will only mainly let me select 16 bit. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am using Win4lin 5 on a mandrake 9.2 distro.

I doubt that you'll be able to play starcraft through win4lin. Win4lin will not run any programs requiring direct hardware access(read virtually all games or most things using DriectX). DirectX functionality in win4lin is very limited. Check your documentation for further details and limitations.

Does VMware support any of that?

I don't think so. If you want to run windows games in linux, your best bet is winex.
