Win XP boot problem in Virtualbox for general user

hello all,

recently i installed virtualbox 1.6.4 on my fedora 9
in virtual box i installed windows XP by logging as a root user!

the installation was completed and i could use the Windows XP in root without any problem.

now i tried to use it in general user mode, so i added the user 'thinesh' to the vboxusers group.

eventhen..i logged in user 'thinesh' and started virutual box OS 'windows XP', the virtual box OS window says as

Quote:

"FATAL: Could not read from the boot medium! System halted."
and windows XP is not booting at all

i tried searching the forum and could not find the solution for this.

can you people, help me

thanks

Try changing the permissions of the VIRTUAL BOX hard disks. I think you will find that root only has access to them.

They should be in

~/.VirtualBox/Machines

make the current user owner of all the files

I do changed it as you mentioned.., it works :-) now!

thanks jax8.

but i have to invoke the virtual box thru command line as

#sudo VBoxSDL -vm "WINDOWS XP"

this boots the OS without any issues.. so far..

but invoking the Virutal Box from the Menu or Desktop shortcut, shows error window as
Quote:

VirtualBox - Critical Error

Failed to create the VirutalBox COM object
The application will now terminate
anyhow.. it works now.. in other way.
