win compatible video chat app in kde?
after a friend's pc got eaten by malware, i have installed mandriva 2006 on it. all is not well however, due to a long distance relationship- i guess yahoo messenger video chats were a staple of his pc regimen. well kopete offers no video, and the linux versions of yahoo, aim, and skype fall short of video compatibility. basically i am left with no resource as of yet; but refuse to believe in all that the platform has to offer, a solution does not exist. Does anyone out there hold the answer?
:) thank you |
have you tried using gnome meeting? if the other user uses net meeting then you should be able to have video conversations with her using this

i'll have to confess my lack of knowledge here- i don't own a webcam, and am not familiar w/ many vavoip possibilities or requirements. i do believe that my friend said that the other party does not own a pc and may frequent internet cafes. is net meeting as easy to use as yahoo im?

anyone tried video call w/ wengo phone?
to me, at least it looked as if it might be a good solution- it didn't see if video calls were supported in linux yet. i couldn't get it to run after using the install rpm anyway...

there is a messenger on linux that supports video chatting, beautifully i must add. its called Mercury, its a java based chat proagram thats as good as MSN 7.5 with a lot of plugins installed :) sadly mercury is only for MSN protocalls, doesnt work with yahoo and i deffinately havnt heard of anything supporting video chat in yahoo :( . still it is a very powerful messemger and if the video chatting is important for u guys i would suggest getting a msn account ans using mercury.
