Will an ssl creation script work

I'm thinking of writing a bash script which will generate all the files needed for a csr file; will this work? Obviously the script is run from one location, so I'm not sure whether it will function as expected? If not, would it be possible for someone to use their own key to create the correct csr? I'm pretty new to ssl; so forgive me if I'm using the wrong terminology here...

you don't need any files for a csr file... what do you expect this script to actually do?

Don't reinvent the wheel, there are many scripst out there already if you look https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=openssl+csr+script

I thought a private key was needed? I've been using this (rather old) website; which has instructions on a self signed certificate, but also a CSR:http://lena.franken.de/linux/create_certificate.html

Thanks for your help though, I'll take a look at some of the links
