I want to create my own wiki, but am looking for a good tool to do so. Any ideas?

I use Linux Mint (with Cinnamon) if that matters.

Don't know if you've checked it out already, but Bluefish is a very nice programming / web development tool. If you don't like it, many programmers use vi/vim, gedit, kwrite, or scite for their coding efforts.

Define "tool"

Why re-invent the wheel? Just install MediaWiki and run.

If you are looking to program your own wiki then you might look at the source code for ScrewTurn Wiki. That one is written in C# and only runs on Windows servers but it is fantastic and you could easily do a Linux port.

I also don't understand what you want to do:
-write a php (or other) code to create a wiki application
-use one of the existing wiki platforms (dokuwiki, mediawiki) to populate it with information of your choice

NO, I DON'T... want to create a Wiki Application.
YES, I DO...Want to Create a Brand-New Wiki using an existing Wiki Platform.

So Far, I have two Recommendations, I think:

1) MediaWiki
2) DokuWiki

Having said that, too much choice is not always good the two recommendations above are very popular so why don't you give them a try and then stick to the one you like more.
