whyCantIInstallRedHat7.1?

Ok, deep breath,1st off im a novice...
icant install redhat7.1...ive got 1 20GB HD with 3 partitions; 1 & 3 are fat32 and 2 is extended. the logical drives in it are native linux and under 2GB. i have a 256MB swap space. a root partition (/ ?) from cylinder 835 to 1023 and a message telling me my cylinders are bigger than 1024somethings. it all seems to install Ok...
BUT, I get a quick flash of a log in type screen and my system freezes.
Ive never tried to install linux before ( or posted anything to a forum) i used it at uni.I could use some advice...where might i be going wrong?

Red Hat <=7.1 ship with an old version of lilo, 7.2 ships with grub which dosn't have a problem with >1024 cyl. Lilo was fixed for >1024 before RH7.0 so I don't know why redhat persisted in shipping a broken distro......oh wait......7.0 was so broken in other ways that the boot loader was a minor issue
Do your self a favor and get a copy of mandrake.

You can buy copies of the download version from some places, there are a couple in Aust that sell them for about $10 a set, if you do a search you should be able to find one in your neck of the woods.
