The development model used by Microsoft is old and not as secure as the OpenSource development model. Their focus is on profit instead of quality.

This should go to general though.

Not only that, but Windows software is full of bugs and vulnerabilities, so that Windows is a place for viruses and worms to thrive. The design of the Linux system is so rock solid that even if a virus hit the system, it won't be able to do much damage, due to the restricted permissions of the mortal user (which is the reason why Linux users should never run the system as root for everyday use).

Some people claim that because Windows is so widespread is the only reason why there are so many viruses, but that's not entirely true. Cracking Linux is and will remain much harder that cracking windows.
