Why does X11 work for ROOT user only?

Totally stumped

When I login as root... beautiful 1280x1024 24bit color -- sweet!

But if I login as a normal user... it looks more like 1024x768, big menus, title bars, especially ugly on an LCD monitor. The weird thing is, the KDE Control Center > Display menu consistently shows that the resolution is 1280x1024.

So why does everything look bigger for normal users?

I tried deleting and re-adding the user, same thing.

I'm using Debian, and KDE3.2, with an nVidia 440MX.

What's going on?

you just have to redo your user config........IE
right click on the taskbar and select config panel, and bring up the Icon-KDE control module and re-size all the Icons on desktop and taskbar........the default is most likely 48x48, shrink them down to 32x32 and see how it looks..........

Wow.. I'm a freakin' moron.

It's amazing how if all your fonts, icons, and panel are set at a large size, it looks just like a lower screen resolution. Duhhhh...

Oh -- but one other thing... in the otherwise beautiful Plastik theme... is there anyway to make the min/max/close window widgets a bit smaller?
