why does gimp keep saving jpeg as 85% rather than 100%?

i've been trying out gimp 2.02. using mdk 10. why is it digital camera jpegs keep saving a 85% in gimp? I'd like to edit them and save at 100% jpeg gimp to minimize loss of info. any idea on how to set default as 100%?

There is a pretty good reason why the value is set at 85%. Any more than that and your Jpeg will just bloat up to a bmp size. Any less then you have noticeable loss of quality. Your best bet would be to save it as a png. png is a lossless format. As to how to change the 0.85 value.. I've looked around.. seems like its hardcoded at the time of compiling. So tough luck. Let us know if you've had better luck

supposing i'd like to set the default to 100% and that file size is not an issue, are there any options to set it to 100% at the time of compiling? i wouldn't mind recompiling. thanks.

You will have to change the following lines in the

Gimp-source/Plugins/Common/Jpeg.c

Code:
#define DEFAULT_QUALITY     0.85
and recompile.
