Why do the Windows in Gnome for Ubuntu Server 7.10 Gutsy have no title bars?

Hey there everyone,

I just installed the newest stable Ubuntu Server 7.10 Gutsy and then tried to install Gnome X Windows by doing :

sudo aptitude install x-window-system-core gnome gdm

Everything seems to install fine. Then I started up Gnome with :

sudo startx

and it does load. As shown in this screenshot below :

Then, if I open any application like the Terminal Console, we get this :

As you can see, the Title Bar for the window is gone, which means I can't move, resize or close the window with the mouse. Also note that the window does not show up on the task bar.

Can you please tell me if there is some setting that got messed up with Ubuntu somewhere?

That is what happens when metacity crashes. Try to restart it and see what the error is.

Code:

$ killall metacity
$ metacity
