Why do I need X to use OpenGL ?

Would it not be crazy if you had to install MS Word
just to have keyboard support and be able to type in command prompt?!

or

Why do I need X just to use my Graphic Card?

***
project: myOS - Linux based OpenGL development system without X

Minimalistic GNU/Linux system, stripped down of everything, but core necessary files to compile and run OpenGL/C code. It has simplified directory structure and cleaned up internal cross referencing. Programs compiled in myOS will run on any Linux with or without X.

how much time did it take you to make OpenGL work on your Linux last time?
when you make OpenGL app under Linux, how many people, you hope, will be able to run it?

Live CD: myOS-1_0_3.iso - 12.8Mb (2007-03-24)

download on my web-page
(search for: myOS linux opengl)

cheers

people who spam the board with fake questions are a drag !

please, what exactly is spam or fake in my question?

you like your keyboard without X, when you need too boot up that rescue floppy to fix something?

it sure is cool, to have network drivers and complete Linux based server in a size of a floppy(without X)

when X crashes, would you not think its just plain crazy if your hard drive because of that could only work 30% speed?

why then,
is ok with you that we cant use our fast AGP, OpenGL, DirectX and otherfeatures that you/we have/will have on your graphic card?

why are the graphic drivers for X, not for Linux?

do you understand question now?

try that with Win 98... you'll see what i mean.
boot Win 98 to the command prompt and try running a Direct X game.
...
as for linux i think it has to do about the way hardware is used - X locks the video card and the only way to efficiently draw something on the screen is through the running X session.
you know software rule is that it has to suffice 80% of the users. since at least 80% of normal users are expected to run a graphical environment then the few others that choose to sit in a command line are left out.
if you think that the console is pretty, i guess you found your love.
