Why did they make pidgin so ugly?

Well I just installed the newest version of pidgin, I didn't pay attention what it was, or what version I used to have, but my initial impression is 'ugh.. wtf were they thinking.'

First the im windows are much taller than they used to be, but my problem is there's a huge empty space above each im window. This seemingly holds no info, it just takes up screen space and does nothing else. It tells you their status is if they're away, but w/e.. that's what my buddy list is for. Why would I be talking to someone who's away anyways?

Anyone know if there's a way to get rid of this, or at least wanna share in my complaints of how they severly gimped out pidgin.

Are you implying Pidgin/GAIM was ever attractive?

Pidgin is GTK+ so layer 6 is a tool for even the most novice of hacks. Have at it.
