Question why cant i load VLC media player onto my linux system, and how do i do it?


I have tried to download vlc media player but the file type is a .exe file which is a winows file, and that wont run or even open on the linux system could someone please give me some advice on how to find a compatable vlc for linux!

What distro are you using? There's a good chance it will be available in your distro's repositories. That would be the best way of installing it.
If not, download it from their website:
http://www.videolan.org/vlc/
You must have downloaded a version for windows. Make sure you download a linux version.

thanks man but finding it difficult which one to choose, please forgive me im not a complete idiot when it comes to pc's and the windows system but linux is making my life a real struggle

the options are :
Debian GNU/Linux
Ubuntu
Mandriva Linux
Fedora
openSUSE
Red Hat Enterprise Linux
Slackware Linux
ALT Linux
Arch Linux

which one should i choose?

Which version of Linux (which "distro") are you running?

I got tht plugin on my sat device

i got the vlc plugin on my sat receiver list of available plugins
i'm running open atv software
linux gui

for Linux got a select it for Linux. you're repo should have it anyways, it is like a default repo distribution in most every Linux version I've ever tried.

i got the plugin listed on my sat receiver but when i install it i cannot access my media to play
i have used this on windows , was very easy and straight forward
says access restricted . Any ideas ?

Nope, but you might want to post a question in there forum. You'd probably get a better detailed fix. if there is one.
