Why can't I get rid of all traces of Firefox?
& download & reinstall it anew?
I'll be able to download Firefox via Opera. I use Opera as a backup browser. Thanks. I messed up about:config in Firefox. PS This is the message I get now: Firefox doesn't know how to open this address, because the protocol (firefox) isn't associated with any program. |
Which distribution are you using?

Distribution: Fedora 13

delete the .mozilla folder in your home folder, then re-run firefox.

I don't have a .mozilla folder in my home folder?
Why is it hidden? Says this folder is already in use. |
Hi -
It sounds like you *do* have a copy of Mozilla in your home directory ("home" is the directory in your "$HOME" environment variable). SUGGESTION: 1. Close all instances of Firefox. 2. Start a terminal window (go to a Linux "command prompt"). 3. Type "ps -eaf|grep -i firefox". Type "kill -9 xxx" (substitute the PID# of any Firefox processes you might find for "xxx"). 4. Type "cd", and hit <enter>. This will take you to your home directory. 5. Type "rm -rf .mozilla" This will delete your .mozilla folder, and everything inside of it. PS: Yes, by definition a Linux file prefixed with "." is a "hidden" file or directory. |
Thanks, Paul. I've followed your advice and Firefox is working now.
